A minor is a programme with courses on one subject, that you can take within your elective space.

If your study programme has space for electives, you can participate in education that is not part of your own study programme. As a student of VU Amsterdam, you often have elective space in the first semester of the third year of your Bachelor’s degree programme. Some Master's degree programmes also offer this option. The opportunities vary per degree programme. You can find more information in the Teaching and Examination Regulations of your degree programme (Bachelor or Master) or in the Study guide

You follow a minor if you want to delve into a specific field. It is a programme with courses on one subject.

Before you sign up for a minor, it is wise to orient yourself well. In addition, it is useful to find out whether you need permission to take the minor. In certain situations you may need approval from the Examination Board first. The rules may differ per faculty or per study programme. Below you will find the links to that information.
