Big Data for Society

How do news reports frame disaster response after tragic events? What role do social media play in political polarisation? How can analysing data help us find solutions? And what are the ethical concerns in mining data?

If you find these types of questions interesting and you want to contribute to solutions for complex, societal issues with big data? Then this Research Master is for you!
Become the researcher of the future
With the two-year Research Master in Societal Resilience at VU Amsterdam, you will work on interesting themes, such as diversity and inclusion, polarization, fake news, governance of algorithms and challenges in care and welfare. With this programme, you will learn innovative approaches to computational social science research.

Does this study fit you?
You will become a part of a vibrant community of learners: in this small-scale programme, you will work closely together with fellow students who are strongly engaged in societal issues. The teaching staff comes from different research backgrounds and has strong ties to societal stakeholders. You will gain practical experience during the full-time internship in the second year.
