  • VU Study Choice Check

    Check your study choice

If you have chosen a study programme, you can use the VU Study Choice Check to find out whether this study programme really suits you and matches the image and expectations you have. The VU Study Choice Check is part of the application procedure and consists of two parts: a digital questionnaire and an online activity.

Participation in the VU Study Choice Check activity of this programme is compulsory! If you do not participate, you cannot complete the application for the study. Invitations will be sent out from the end of April. The activity is organized via  Canvas, our online learning platform. There you will find all the important information once you have registered for the activity.

You can participate in the online activity until 15 August, but we advise you to hand in your Canvas assignments before 9 June so that the process can be completed by mid-June and you can continue with your application. There will be a lecture on Thursday afternoon 9 June to discuss the assignments and to ask any questions you may have.

Do you have any questions? Please contact studychoicecheck.fgw@vu.nl.

General information about the VU Study Check can be found here.

  • Binding Study Advice (BSA)

The BSA is an advice given to all Bachelor’s students on four occasions during their first year of studies concerning their study progress. The fourth recommendation, issued at the end of the first year, is binding in nature. To continue to the second year you must have obtained a certain number of credits.

To receive a positive BSA for this study programme you must have obtained a minimum of 48 EC (credits) at the end of the first year of enrolment. Every student has access to an overview of the obtained study results and assessments are available for inspection after registration of the test result.

  • Coronavirus additional information admission

Generally speaking hbo-students must have completed the entire first year of a higher education programme before they are allowed to start a university bachelor's programme. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however, some students have had to partially stop their studies, resulting in an unfortunate delay. This is why VU Amsterdam grants an exception to this rule for students who want to transition from the first year of a HBO-programme to an academic bachelor’s programme. This means that, under certain conditions, you can still start your bachelor's programme at VU Amsterdam from September 2022. Read below whether you are eligible for this scheme and how to apply.

Admission to this bachelor is subject to the following conditions:

    • You will be able to submit a positive recommendation on completion of the propaedeutic phase to VU Amsterdam by 1 August 2022 at the latest;
    • A maximum of one unit of education for the propaedeutic phase of higher professional education may still be open or, in the case of several units of study, up to a maximum of 6 EC.
    • You must have passed the propaedeutic exam of a HBO bachelor's programme no later than 31 December 2022.

All conditions can be found in the Addendum Pertaining to the 2022-2023 Teaching and Examination Regulations

    Request exceptional admission

Do you meet these conditions or do you expect to meet these conditions by 31 August at the latest? If so, you can request exceptional admission no later than 1 August. Do so by completing and submitting this form.

Do you not yet meet all of the criteria, but do you expect to meet them by August 31st at the latest? Please apply for exceptional admission already.

Please note that you are expected to obtain all missing credits in the academic by 31 December 2022, and will therefore have a higher study load. Also don't forget to re-enrol for your current programme as you will not be able to obtain the positive recommendation on completion!
