Applying with a non-Dutch diploma for an English-taught programme

Applying with a Dutch diploma or for a Dutch-taught programme

  • VU Application Form - Bachelor

Are you applying with a Dutch diploma (other than VWO) or for a Dutch-taught programme? To complete your application, we kindly ask you to download the 'VU-aanmeldformulier - bachelor ', fill it in, and upload it via your VU Dashboard.

    Please note:

    • This application form does not apply to the Bachelor's programme in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE). Click here for more information about applying for the Bachelor's programme in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE).
    • You also do not need to complete this form if your prior education consists solely of a Dutch VWO diploma, or if you are currently in the process of obtaining one.

At this stage of the application, original or certified documents are not required yet. A clear scan of your grade lists and/or diplomas will be sufficient.

Are you applying for an English-taught programme with a non-Dutch diploma? Please make sure to use the  designated form which you can find in the section above: 'Applying with a non-Dutch diploma for an English-taught programme'. You are also asked to use that form when you apply with a combination of a non-Dutch diploma and a Higher professional education (HBO) propaedeutic year completed in the Netherlands.

  • Where can I upload the VU Application Form

You are asked to upload your application documents in the application portal in your VU dashboard. This dashboard can be accessed by logging in with your VUnet-ID username and password.

  • Dutch language requirement

If you apply for a Dutch-language programme, you must demonstrate sufficient Dutch language proficiency at the level specified in the admission decision.

You can do this by submitting a valid certificate from the list with accepted English language tests, or with a diploma that is on the list of possible exemptions for the Dutch language test. In that case, the subject Dutch at the required level must have been part of your secondary school programme.

  • VU Study Choice Check

Most Bachelor's degree programmes have adopted VU Study Choice Check. The application process includes a check to assess whether the programme is really suitable for you. You do this with VU Study Choice Check, which consists of a mandatory questionnaire in the VU Dashboard and (for most degree programmes) an (online) activity for which you will be invited via email.

What is VU Study Choice Check?
