Launch of first annual campaign VUfonds

7 November 2022
Research on long-covid, acquisition of a unique atlas and restoration of old books for the heritage collections, and scholarships for refugee students. These are the three projects that will launch the first annual campaign of VUfonds in early November. Everyone who cares about the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam community can contribute to these special projects in the coming months.

Effective treatment for people with long covid
Tens of thousands of people in the Netherlands suffer from long covid: long-term symptoms after a corona infection. 'Whereas exercise is normally good for people with chronic diseases, it actually makes these people sick,' says movement scientist Rob Wüst. As a result, long covid has a major impact on society.

Acquisition of a unique atlas and restoration of old books
Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam heritage collections are a rich resource for teaching and research and provide context for scientific discoveries. 'It is our mission to preserve this heritage and make it available to the public', says curator Willemien van Dijk. Severely damaged prints are to be restored and the conservators want to acquire a unique atlas.

Scholarships for refugee students
'You can't change your history, but you can build your future,' says former refugee student Omar Hammad. Words that reflect exactly what this project is about: ensuring that all students have the opportunity to unleash their full potential and be successful, regardless of their origin. With relatively small scholarships, refugee students are quickly helped.
