Empowering Participation in education and organization

Are you a current or prospective member of one of the student representative bodies at VU Amsterdam? How can you ensure that your voice is not only heard, but also has a real impact? What does meaningful education look like, and how can you bring about lasting change?

The Training programme Participation at VU supports members of participation councils in developing knowledge, skills, and confidence to actively contribute to educational governance.

The programme equips students and employees to understand institutional structures, collaborate effectively, and translate their voices into meaningful institutional change.

Participants learn how to:

  • Navigate university governance and decision-making structures
  • Understand their rights, responsibilities, and mandate
  • Develop policy plans and strategic initiatives
  • Facilitate collaborative and democratic processes
  • Advocate for educational quality and innovation

The programme combines trainings, reflection sessions, and practical workshops designed to support representatives throughout their mandate.

Programme Structure
The training series follows the natural rhythm of the participation council mandate and is organised across three phases during the academic year.

For whom?
The programme is primarily intended for:

  • Participants may enrol in the full programme or select individual sessions
  • The programme is free of charge for all VU participation councils

Participants are expected to actively contribute to discussions and collaborative exercises during the sessions.

Incompany
If a faculty or central body wishes to follow the programme as a tailored in‑house training for their own team, personalised formats are available. Please contact ctl@vu.nl for information about options and associated costs.
