Want to Build a Career as a Data Analyst with Impact?

Choose your Master's in Data Science & AI or Combine it with Language, Economics and Social Sciences

Specialise as a data analyst with a master's degree in, for example, AI, econometrics, business analytics, mathematics, linguistics, or even sociology!

Do you aspire to become a data analyst, AI specialist, or interdisciplinary researcher?
At Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, you can follow a master’s programme in data science, mathematics, or artificial intelligence — or combine these with domains such as language, economics, or social sciences.

  • Human-centred & socially aware AI research: VU Amsterdam is a leader in integrating data science and AI with societal values, health, sustainability, and ethics. Our research includes flagship initiatives such as Building A.I.nstein (an AI scientist) and the application of machine learning in cancer research.
  • Campus environment & community: VU Amsterdam is a full-campus university; everything is close by—lecture halls, labs, libraries, sports facilities, and cafés—giving you the space to learn, live, and grow.
  • Strong academic reputation: our research is recognised nationally and internationally, and our programmes encourage rigorous theoretical foundations as well as application in real-world problems.

Pathways: From Bachelor's to Master's

Suppose you have completed a bachelor’s degree (WO or HBO) in mathematics, computer science, econometrics, business analytics, or a related field. In that case, you can continue at VU Amsterdam in specialised master’s programmes such as Business Analytics or Econometrics and Operations Research.

But that’s not all: the data-driven world touches every discipline. At VU, you can also study data science in the context of language (Language & AI) or social sciences (Social Sciences for a Digital Society) — asking questions like:

  • How do we build algorithms that do not discriminate?
  • How can AI deepen our understanding of language?
  • How can data be used effectively in reducing poverty?

Other areas of application include health, sport, and human movement sciences.
