However, the climate crisis also presents an opportunity to create more sustainable and just futures. We know what we need to do to safeguard our futures – there are many viable solutions, policies and actions that can move us in new socio-ecological directions.
To mobilize leadership and collective action for change, we need better ways to get our messages across - a way that touches hearts instead of only our rational brains. We have to wrap our messages in compelling stories instead of in scientific articles full of jargon. We have to make our stories vivid, personal and close-by instead of abstract and distant. Stories are powerful ways to help us make sense of and act in the world.
That is where we need your help!
Would you like to create a story about solutions for climate change and socio-ecological peril? A story aimed at decision makers of local, regional, and (inter)national boardrooms? A story that can inspire others to act?
If your answer is yes, the heat is on! Sign up for our two storytelling workshops.
Dates: 23 May and 6 June, 2024
Time: 9.30-12.30 (23 May) and 13.30-15.30 (6 June)*
Location: VU Amsterdam
*The 6 June workshop will be online or hybrid.
Registration for both workshops closes on 17 May. The workshops are free of charge and include some snacks.
If you sign up, you commit to attend the two workshops and to create a short story with our help. You will get a bit of homework to prepare for the first workshop and to refine your story afterwards.
In the first workshop, you will learn from the trainers Sjoerd Kluiving and Mark Baildon the secret formulas of all great stories. You will also design your own story to spark bottom-up and grassroots action. We will help you, so do not worry if this is your first attempt at writing. Next, we will together
refine our stories. A graphic artist, Lodewijk Koster, will assist us in the first workshop. In the second workshop, we will share and learn together: how can we best touch leaders’ and others’ hearts?
Don’t wait any longer and sign up today via this link as spots are limited.
For this mission, VU's Distinguished Fellow of the Anthropocene and CLUE+ director Sjoerd Kluiving teams up with Prof. Dr. Mark Baildon, Coordinator of International Collaboration & Partnerships, United Arab Emirates University.
Mark Baildon also gives a keynote lecture in the afternoon program of the CLUE+ Annual Meeting, for which you can register here. His keynote will further explore themes related to moving From Socio-Ecological Peril to Safeguarding Futures.
