Do you experience a gap between the learning potential of your students and traditional classrooms? Do you want to get hands-on professionalisation on how to develop learning environments for students that have specific accessibility needs? Do you want to join a learning community that intends to challenge conventional approaches to learning environments?
In the course Designing Accessible Learning Environments, you will learn how to apply Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Mixed classroom (MC) and Blended Learning (BL) in your own learning context. Whether you want to redesign an existing course or make a new one, develop a supervision process or start a learning community, in this course you can work on whatever context is applicable. In doing so, you will look at your own role so that you are able to support others in designing accessible education.
Initially, this course was aimed at designing learning environments that tailor mostly to student neurodiversity, a concept that basically states that “everyone is differently wired on a neurological level”, where specific needs to working environments, learning barriers and collaboration emerge. However, we noticed that every student or learner can benefit from these interventions and learning models. However, 20% of students in the Netherlands fall under the umbrella of “neurodivergence”, where clinical categories such as AD(H)D, ASS, dyslexia or giftedness are helpful to design learning environments in a more accessible way. By taking these elements into account, we can design learning environments that not hinder students but empowers them to come to their full potential.
Why follow this course?
This course is built on the very principles it teaches: inclusive, flexible, and learner-centered. We start from your context, your needs, and your goals. Whether you prefer in-person sessions, a hybrid format, or a fully self-paced e-learning experience — the choice is yours. You’ll work on a concrete intervention tailored to your own practice. Along the way, you’ll be part of a supportive learning community that inspires, challenges and helps you grow.
