Pre-PhD Research Training Programme

Your Pre-PhD Research Training Programme has this curriculum in academic foundation, PhD courses and research practice.

Further optional courses can be added in consultation with the mentor.  

Learn what it means to be a scholar

These courses will provide you with essential skills required to become a scholar in business and management research.

Courses (6-8 ECTS)

  • Philosophy of science (3 ECTS)
  • Research integrity (3 ECTS)
  • How to build an academic career (2 ECTS) - optional

Acquire methodological skills

In these courses, you will acquire the knowledge and methodological skills necessary for conducting research in business and management. You can choose between a qualitative and a quantitative track depending on your interests and background. It is also possible to follow additional courses from the other track.

Courses (min. 10 ECTS)

Qualitative track

  • Designing qualitative research (5 ECTS)
  • Qualitative data analysis (5 ECTS)

Quantitative track

  • R for business and management research (5 ECTS)
  • Multivariate data analysis (5 ECTS)

Know the state of the art in your field

ABRI offers a series of courses introducing you to the state-of-the-art in the various research fields of our research tracks. Our theory/field courses regularly take place in period 5 and are optional for participants of our Pre-PhD Program.

Courses (optional)

  • Contemporary Issues in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management (5 ECTS) - optional
  • Marketing Research with Purpose  (5 ECTS) - optional
  • Theoretical Perspectives on Digital Innovation  (5 ECTS) - optional
  • Theoretical Foundations of Entrepreneurship and Strategy (5 ECTS) - optional

Learn how to do research

Next to the regular courses, you will work on a research project together with an ABRI Fellow who acts as your personal mentor. In addition, there will be an opportunity to work as a research and/or teaching assistant at an ABRI-affiliated department.

  • Research/Teaching Assistantship (no credits)
