This specialisation examines how healthcare systems function, and it explores how health is shaped by factors like income, education, work, social security, and the environment.
People’s need for care comes with big societal questions:
- How can we ensure access to affordable, high-quality healthcare—with costs rising as a share of GDP, aging populations, new treatments, and growing health inequalities?
- And what kind of policies are needed to tackle major public health challenges such as mental health issues, pandemics, and climate change?
You will study how healthcare systems are organised, funded, and regulated—and how patients, providers, and insurers make decisions within these systems. You will explore how economic incentives and institutional arrangements affect health outcomes. With a strong foundation in data analysis, you will gain the tools to design and evaluate policies that improve healthcare, promote public health, and reduce inequality—both in the Netherlands and globally.
