Programme committees LAW

Last updated on 14 March 2024
Each Law degree program has its own degree programme committee (OLC). An OLC is a participation body that advises on the quality of education.

Advice of the Programme Committee (OLC) Law

By law, every study program has a study programme committee (OLC) that advises the Faculty Board and the study programme management on all subjects related to the education of that study programme. This includes the design and content of subjects, the teaching and testing quality, the timetable structure, changes in the curriculum and the teaching evaluations. Sometimes it is also possible that the study programme committee responds to complaints from students or to issues that they experience themselves, for example when there are too few seats in a room.

Members

The student OLC members and lecturer members are appointed by the Faculty Board, on the recommendation of the FSR resp. the programme management. The recruitment and selection of the OLC student members takes place at the beginning of each academic year.

Activities of the OLC

  • The OLC also responds to complaints from students or to matters that they experience themselves, for example when there are too few seats in a room.
  • The student OLC members and the lecturer members are appointed by the Faculty Board, on the recommendation of the FSR resp. the programme management.
  • A study programme committee meets at least four times a year. Reading documents, preliminary and subsequent discussions with fellow committee members, writing advice and taking part in meetings outside the faculty takes approximately one day a month. With this you will gain a lot of experience and get to know the training from a completely different side. It is also possible to expand your employee participation qualities through courses.

Sounding board

The study programme committee is the sounding board for the study programme. You should therefore send complaints or suggestions for improvement to one of the student members, the secretary or the chair of the study programme committee.

Programme Committees of the Faculty of Law: more information

  • OLC Criminology

Each study programme, including the Criminology programme (Bachelor and Master), has a programme committee. A programme committee always consists of one half of students and the other half of teachers. They represent the students and teachers of the Criminology programme and advise the programme director and the Faculty Board on matters related to education.

What does the PC Criminology do?

Our main goal is to monitor the quality of the training. We do this by providing solicited and unsolicited advice to the Dean or the Faculty Board. For example, we provide requested advice when changes are due to the composition of the courses of the study programme. For example, we provide unsolicited advice when ideas for improving education and complaints or from students or teachers are reported to us. There are many different subjects on which we can provide advice, such as changes in the curriculum, Education and Examination Regulations (OER), the design and content of subjects, subject evaluations, exams and the timetable.

We meet at least four times a year. We discuss, for example, the evaluations of the courses. We also hold meetings about the programme as a whole, the examination rules and any complaints or personal experiences with the programme. In addition to these meetings, we also regularly consult with the programme management, so that feedback points can be addressed quickly. In addition, we represent the study programme at a visitation or audit committee. At the end of each year, we prepare an annual report, which includes the advice and points for improvement from the past year and the points for attention for the following year. This annual report and the discussions we have with the program management during the year ensure that we can have a lot of influence on the quality of education. For example, on the basis of our advice, courses have been thoroughly modified in recent years and even existing courses have been terminated and new courses started.

    Participation

Since 1 September 2017, we have become a formal employee participation body with the entry into force of the legislative amendment to the Administrative Power Act. This means that, in addition to the above advice, we have the right of consent on certain aspects of the Education and Examination Regulations (OER). This means, for example, that changes to the learning outcomes of the program can only be implemented if we agree with this.

Do you want to participate as a student?

We are the sounding board for the training. Students can contact us with questions, complaints, comments and remarks about the criminology program and the masters or a specific subject. The PC Bachelor Criminology can be reached via BAolccriminologie.rch@vu.nl. The PC Master Criminology can be reached via MAolccriminologie.rch@vu.nl.
