Communication scientist Katalin Balint received Aspasia grant

3 August 2022
Communication scientist Katalin Balint of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam received an Aspasia grant from The Dutch Research Council (NWO). Aspasia must ensure that more female assistant professors progress to the level of associate professor or full professor.

Balint is a researcher in the Communication Science department specializing in Media Psychology. Her main focus is the media psychology of audio-visual narratives. Balint currently researches the psychological effects of narratives on empathy and self-disclosure. Balint: “I would like to find out how certain features of the narratives, such as the form or complexity of the structure, may matter in this effect.”

Balint is very happy to receive the prestigious Aspasia grant. She would like to use it for realizing some of the research ideas of her Vidi grant on narrative complexity.

The goal of the Aspasia grant is to encourage the promotion of female Vidi grant candidates to an associate professorship since women are underrepresented at higher levels on the career ladder. The Aspasia grant was set up by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the Association of Universities in the Netherlands and NWO.
