GO credential: Growth in Education

Good education starts with good support. The GO credential, Growth in Education, is the quality mark for programmes that provide excellent guidance and development opportunities for new lecturers in higher education.

“Forty four percent of teachers say early career lecturers are not adequately supported, a challenge seen across higher professional education and research universities.” (Onderwijsinspectie, De Staat van het Onderwijs 2024)

This has to change. And it can.

Discover the GO credential
In higher education, many teachers learn the craft on the job. New faculty often begin teaching without formal pedagogical training, which means they step into the classroom without a comprehensive didactic foundation. The GO programme offers focused, high quality guidance in a relatively short format. Most development happens in the workplace before, during, and after the programme, so learning in practice is essential for teacher growth and for the quality of education.

Inspired by the successful platform 'Samen Opleiden en Professionaliseren', (Together in Training and Professionalization), the GO credential was developed in co-creation with selected colleges and universities as a clear quality benchmark for higher education programmes.

What is the GO credential
The GO credential is a quality framework for training programmes across onboarding, mentoring, peer review, and professional growth. Using shared criteria, an independent assessment determines whether a programme offers effective support for new teachers.

Programmes that meet the quality standards are awarded the credential, recognizing their commitment to high quality teaching and a clear vision for educator development.

Why the GO credential
The GO credential signals a strong commitment to teaching excellence. It affirms that we value collaboration, job satisfaction, and ongoing professional growth, all of which elevate the quality of our education. Earning this credential reflects positively on the programme, and shows that teaching is approached with rigor, care, and continuous improvement.
