The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) fund gives educators the opportunity to design, implement and evaluate their ideas to improve education at VU Amsterdam.
We explicitly invite proposals from (teams of) educators who wish to conduct course-level scholarship into a promising educational innovation, challenge, or question with the potential to help future-proof education at VU Amsterdam.
What is in it for you?
Succesful applicants will receive:
- Up to 10k Euro budget to dedicate time, hire assistants, or obtain technical and educational support for their project;
- Training and coaching by SoTL experts at the VU Centre for Teaching & Learning in conducting SoTL;
- Opportunities to join and contribute to the growing network of SoTL practitioners at the VU, the Netherlands, and internationally;
- Recognition for your leadership and contribution to educational innovation;
- A strong foundation for a larger SoTL or educational research project supported by (inter)national funding opportunities (e.g., the NKO SoTL grant).
What is expected from you and your team?
Succesful applicants are expected to:
- Propose an exciting SoTL project, situated in your teaching practice and addressing a meaningful teaching and learning question, with potential to help future-proof education at VU Amsterdam;
- Implement and evaluate your project using a systematic and evidence-informed approach;
- Commit to completing your SoTL project by December 2027, although a later date can be imagined for projects starting later in the year;
- Participate actively in the coaching and networking activities organized by the CTL;
- Share project outcomes with your colleagues, the wider VU educational community, and beyond through presentations, workshops, reports, publications, podcasts, vlogs, and other dissemination activities.
Apply by 1 November and (if your proposal is granted) implement your project in 2027!
