Discover the role of religion in people’s lives

Theology and Religious Studies

Please note this Bachelor’s programme will only be available in Dutch for students who start the programme from September 2025 onwards. The last cohort in the English programme started in September 2024.

For more information on the programme in Dutch, please go to this page.

With your broad bachelor’s degree, you could work as a consultant, journalist, or pioneer in a religious community. Of course, you can also opt for one of our master’s programmes. If you elect to follow Theology and Religious Studies, you will study religion in one of the most multi-religious cities of the world: Amsterdam.

You will have the opportunity to study the contested historical and contemporary coexistence of diverse religious groups living here. In class, you will be immersed in dialogical learning in an interfaith setting. You will retain your own individuality, while also looking beyond the limits of your own religious tradition. You will be encouraged to get involved in the international research of your lecturers. We invite you to come study at this unique theological experimental laboratory.

Want to know where former students ended up? Then read the stories of André Poortman, Fardau Procee, Robin de Wever and Corriene van Eck.

What can you do after your Bachelor’s degree?
