Facilities for people with a disability

Various facilities for students, staff and visitors with a disability are available on the grounds and in the buildings of VU Amsterdam.

Public facilities

There are disabled parking spaces in the vicinity of all VU buildings. Every building has at least one wheelchair-accessible entrance and all restaurants as well as the university library are wheelchair accessible. A number of toilets have also been fully adapted for disabled use.

Disabled access passes to the entrance of the W&N building (1083-A) and to the courtyard entrance of the Main Building are available from toegangsbeheer.fco@vu.nl. Opening hours Access Management: 09.00-16.00 hrs.

Specific provisions

  • Adapting workspaces 
    If, as an employee with a physical disability, you require adjustments to be made to your workspace, you should consult the Occupational Health and Safety department before submitting a request to the Corporate Real Estate and Facilities Service Desk.
  • Parking pass 
    Visitors who want to make use of the parking facilities on the VU campus due to disability, please send an email to servicedesk.fco@vu.nl.

    Are you an employee and in possession of a valid disability card? Then apply for a parking permit through Parcfacility.

    If you are not a national or European disability cardholder, make an appointment with Mariƫlle Rozemond on 020-5989010 or at m.h.rozemond@vu.nl to find out whether you are eligible for the pass.

Do you need other facilities? If so, please contact Human Resources, Health Safety and Environment (HR&HSE).

Facilities for students

In addition to the above, the following facilities are available to students:

  • Personal locker (for storing smaller aids, textbooks etc.)
  • A quiet space
  • Storage space for larger equipment
  • Loan service for software and hardware to make studying easier, available through the Audio-Visual Centre and UC-IT
  • Adjustable desks and chairs etc. in the larger lecture halls
  • Additional guidance and support
