There are disabled parking spaces in the vicinity of all VU Amsterdam buildings. Every building has at least one wheelchair-accessible entrance and all restaurants as well as the university library are wheelchair accessible. A number of toilets have also been fully adapted for disabled use. Check the map for entrances, wheelchair-accessible lifts, etc.

Parking on the VU Campus

The VU campus is a low-traffic zone. Visitors with a valid disability parking permit may apply to park on the VU campus or, for a fee, park in a disabled parking space in the parking garages. Staff and students who hold a valid disability parking permit or who, for medical reasons, are temporarily obliged to travel to work by car may be eligible for one of the schemes listed below.

• Visitors: There are only a few above-ground disabled parking spaces available on the VU campus. If you hold a national disabled parking permit, please report to the intercom at the barrier in front of the Main Building. Please note: you will only be allowed through if there is a space available. Staff can register their visitors in advance by sending an email to frontoffice.fco@vu.nl. However, this does not guarantee a disabled parking space. If there are no spaces available, visitors can always use a disabled parking space in one of the VU-VUmc parking garages.
• Are you an employee and in possession of a valid disabled parking permit? Employees may be eligible for a parking permit provided they hold a recognised disability card. They can apply for the permit using this form (Keuzehulp parkeerabonnement | Parkeerbedrijf VU-VUmc).
• Are you an employee who does not hold a national or European disability card? Staff members who do not have a recognised disability card and who, for medical reasons, are temporarily obliged to travel to work by car may be eligible for a temporary parking permit (TMI). Accessibility VU Amsterdam buildings

All buildings at VU Amsterdam have at least one wheelchair-accessible entrance. In almost all cases, these can be used without an access card. Wheelchair-accessible entrances that can only be accessed with a valid access pass (such as the rear entrance to the Main Building (Campusplein entrance)) are fitted with an intercom and a camera through which you can contact Security.  A number of entrances have a disabled lift, which is also fitted with an intercom and a camera. A valid pass is also required for the use of some of the indoor lifts. 

Visitors can ask the reception staff in the Central Hall for assistance.
Are you a student? If so, please arrange access rights for the lifts and/or wheelchair entrances via your academic advisor. Staff and tenants can submit an application via the service portal: VU card- Request additional access.

The main public facilities, such as the conference centres, the Aula, the Auditorium and the various lobbies and foyers, are easily accessible to people with disabilities. The Aula and Auditorium are also equipped with a hearing loop. Furthermore, there are a number of wheelchair-accessible toilets in each building.

Relaxation rooms on VU Campus

There are rest areas at various locations across the VU Campus, intended for anyone with a disability and/or chronic illness who, from time to time, needs some rest, quiet or time to recover.

Facilities for employees

Various facilities are available for employees, for example if you need an adapted workplace. 

Workplace adjustments
You apply for personal facilities (e.g. a braille display) yourself via UWV. If they do not arrange and reimburse it, our occupational health and safety advisor can help. The Service point Participation can provide support. For adjustments to buildings, you can contact the Service point Participation. These adjustments are made in consultation with FCO. These adaptations also require a workplace investigation.
