Facilities for people with a disability

Various facilities for students, staff and visitors with a disability are available on the grounds and in the buildings of VU Amsterdam.

There are disabled parking spaces in the vicinity of all VU buildings. Every building has at least one wheelchair-accessible entrance and all restaurants as well as the university library are wheelchair accessible. A number of toilets have also been fully adapted for disabled use. Check the map for entrances, wheelchair-accessible lifts, etc.

Do you have a disability and require certain accessibility? In this case, it is always recommended to contact:

Accessibility VU buildings

All VU buildings have at least one wheelchair accessible entrance. Not all the rooms are accessible and in order to use certain lifts, you need a lift pass. Students can request a lift pass by contacting the academic advisor of your faculty.

Access passes to the wheelchair-accessible entrance of the W&N building (1083-A) and to the courtyard entrance of the Main Building are available from toegangsbeheer.fco@vu.nl. Opening hours Access Management: 09:00-16:00 hrs. Employees or renters can request access via the Service portal: VU card - Request additional access.

Most buildings have one or more lifts that can be used by people with a disability. These lifts have an intercom and camera to check in at the reception.

Parking on the VU Campus

Visitors who want to make use of the parking facilities on the VU campus due to a disability, please send an email to servicedesk.fco@vu.nl.

Are you an employee and in possession of a valid disability card? Then apply for a parking permit through Parcfacility.

If you are a student, fill in and submit the form Parking pass application for VU students with a disability (only available in Dutch).

If you are not a national or European disability cardholder, make an appointment with Mariëlle Rozemond on 020-5989010 or at m.h.rozemond@vu.nl to find out whether you are eligible for the pass. For students: please contact the academic advisor of your faculty.

Do you need other facilities? If so, please contact Human Resources, Health Safety and Environment (HR&HSE).

Rest rooms on VU Campus

Rest rooms are available at various locations on the VU Campus, intended for staff and students with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses.

Facilities for students

In addition to the above, there are other facilities available to students. Read more about studying with a disability at VU Amsterdam.

Facilities for employees

Various facilities are available for employees, for example if you need an adapted workplace.

Workplace adjustments
You apply for personal facilities (e.g. a braille display) yourself via UWV. If they do not arrange and reimburse it, our occupational health and safety advisor can help. The Service point Participation can provide support. For adjustments to buildings, you can contact the Service point Participation. These adjustments are made in consultation with FCO. These adaptations also require a workplace investigation.
