Relaxation rooms

Various relaxation rooms and sleeping pods are available on VU campus for staff, students and visitors with (temporary) support needs or reduced mobility.

These rooms are not for studying, meetings or prayer; other facilities are available on campus for these purposes.

Overview

  • VU Main building 1A-68
  • Initium 0B-12a
  • MF building A-028
  • New University building 6C-035
  • Research building VU 1KB-TH1b (located in restricted area
  • W&N building M514

Note: The Main building (study area, 3B-06) houses two sleeping pods. Staff and students can use these for a power nap. The sleeping pods are freely accessible; no reservation is required. Please bring your own earplugs, headphone or sleep mask.

Layout and use

Relaxations rooms are equipped with an adjustable (reclining) chair, a low-stimulus interior, and dimmable lighting. The rooms in the Main Building and the NU Building also contain a cot. Access is restricted; entry requires an authorized VU card or assistance from FCO Security. Relaxation rooms must be booked prior to use.

Request access

  • VU staff: request access via this form on the Service Portal.
  • VU students: contact your study advisor to discuss your eligibility.
  • External staff/tenants: request access via this form on the external Service Portal
  • Visitors: contact the FCO Front Office.

Your request will be reviewed and—following approval by the authorizing officer—processed. To activate access (after confirmation), you must update your card (click here for instructions). Your authorization grants access to all quiet rooms on campus for a period of up to one year. You can only use relaxation rooms located in restricted areas if you also have access to the building itself.

Advance reservation required

Relaxation rooms must be reserved before use so that everyone knows when the space is available. VU staff and students book the room via Outlook (or webmail). External staff and visitors should contact FCO Front Office.

You can book a room for a maximum of 60 minutes at a time. It is possible to reserve the room multiple times per day or week. You can find a guide on how to reserve relaxation rooms via Outlook on VU.nl (for VU staff and students only).

Order and hygiene

Please be considerate of others and leave the room tidy and according to the layout plan displayed in the room. Food and drinks are not permitted, nor are phone calls or (loud) music. You may wish to bring your own earplugs, headphones, a small blanket or a cushion. You can lock the room from the inside, set the sliding sign to ‘occupied’ or press the vacant/occupied switch. Don’t forget to set the slider back to ‘vacant’ or turn off the switch after use. Please report any malfunctions or defects to FCO Front Office.
