The striking VU Main building on De Boelelaan from the 1970s has been modernized in recent years. More contemporary teaching spaces, adapted to new forms of education, have been added. Extra study, work and meeting places have also been created, such as the Global Room for international staff and students. The University Library, several faculties and the central restaurant are housed in the Main Building. Every day, 6,000 visitors walk into the central hall. Every year, we organize the On the Roofff Film Festival. This type of event attracts a large audience.

The building was designed by architect Chr. Nielsen and is 90,000 m2.
