The School Office of the School of Humanities supports the school with regard to teaching, research, policy, finances, staff matters and publicity.

Organisation

  • School departmental office

    The departmental office can be contacted at afdelingensecretariaat.fgw@vu.nl. This office supports the heads of department and the school research staff. Their activities include taking minutes at (departmental) meetings, managing the diaries of the heads of department, correspondence, and general tasks such as room reservations, post and copying work.

    The departmental office does not handle any matters regarding education. Please contact the Central Student Desk (020 598 5020) for questions in this area.

    Students enrolled at VU Amsterdam can find answers to all frequently asked questions about education, registering for courses, graduating, the board of examiners and student counseling on VU.nl.     Education Coordinators

    The Education Coordinators oversee the planning of teaching at VU Amsterdam. Their activities include harmonizing the various degree programmes, timetabling classes and exams, as well as making room reservations. They also provide educational information for the study guides and give the departments numerical management data regarding education.

    The Communications & Marketing team is tasked with formulating and executing the internal and external communications policy of the faculty. This includes information events, recruitment, the website, social media, the newsletter and external profiling.

    At SH we think it is important that employees can function in a safe working environment. If there are situations in which you feel that this is not the case, depending on the circumstances, discuss this in the first instance with the person in question and/or with your manager.   • HR Advice

    Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities - HRM

    The HR team advises and supports the board and faculty managers in the area of HR policy. The HR-advisors offer support and advice in relation to:

    • recruitment and selection
    • annual consultations
    • employee career development
    • remuneration issues
    • employment terms and conditions
    • staff policies
    • staff and organisational issues in the broad sense

    They also offer advice and mediation for individual issues.

  • Finance

    Finance supports SH in managing the financial resources.

    The Business Controller is mainly concerned with advising the faculty board, the director of operations and the department and section heads in the field of financial policy and management.
