From flexibilisation to activating didactics, and from inclusive education to the use of AI: changes in society and student populations require continuous development of educational practices. But what innovations actually benefit students? Which solutions are effective? And how can we ensure that knowledge gained in this field reaches other departments, faculties and educational institutions? We will tackle these questions during this first national SoTL day.
What is SoTL?
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is an approach designed to encourage and support lecturers in systematically researching their own teaching practices. This allows them to investigate the effectiveness of their teaching, improve student learning experiences, collect evidence and share experiences so that other teachers can also learn from them.
Why participate?
- Inspiring workshops: in three workshop rounds, you will take a look behind the scenes of colleagues who will be happy to share their insights on teaching and learning based on their SoTL projects! 📚💡
- Support to get started yourself: whether you are experienced with SoTL or just starting out, education is something we build together. In several sessions, you will get tips and support for when you want to get started with SoTL yourself, or take your project to the next level. 📝📊
- Networking opportunities: meet colleagues from all over the Netherlands who are also involved in SoTL projects, and come up with great new collaborations! 🤝💬
Who is the SoTL day for?
The SoTL day is for everyone in higher education (hbo and wo) who cares about educational development:
- Lecturers who use SoTL to investigate their educational innovations, or would like to do so.
- Programme directors, programme coordinators and managers who are involved in SoTL projects, or would like to investigate whether this method is appropriate for their programme and/or team.
- Policy officers who have educational quality in their portfolio.
- Trainers and supervisors of teachers (teams) who want to gain more insight into practice-based research using SoTL.
How can you contribute?
The SoTL day is entirely about sharing knowledge and insights among all attendees. So bring all insights, successes and failures in the field of SoTL with you so that others can benefit from it too! Submission of abstracts for the workshop rounds is now closed.
