Language opens the door to learning, friendship, and active participation in society. Strong language development forms the foundation for this, but this development is not self-evident for every child.
This minor introduces students to the discipline of linguistics. You will learn how language is processed in the brain, which stages of language acquisition children go through, and the importance of hearing in language development. This linguistic knowledge enables you to understand the relationship between language and reading, as well as language delays and their consequences for a child’s social and cognitive functioning.
This minor offers students of pedagogy, psychology, or educational sciences the opportunity to specialize in child language development. For students from universities of applied sciences (PABO or Logopedie), it provides in-depth insight into child language development and a first introduction to studying at a university.
