Study Law and Technology and help create the future

Become a legal expert at the intersection of law and technology

How should the law deal with artificial intelligence, online platforms, or self-driving cars? And what responsibilities do legal professionals have in a rapidly digitalising world?

Technological developments raise a wide range of legal issues. New technologies can challenge existing legal concepts, threaten human rights, and require new legislation to stimulate innovation or protect individuals, communities, and societies. Think of facial recognition technology, large language models, killer drones, and automated decision-making affecting consumers and citizens. The International Technology Law track examines these and many other emerging technologies and their implications for the law.

Are these topics of interest to you? If so, the International Technology Law track within the Master’s in Law at VU Amsterdam is the right choice for you.

Law in action

Law in action

This track is taught by leading academic researchers and guest lecturers working in legal practice. The guest lecturers cover topics that are highly relevant for future legal practitioners. Many of our academic researchers also fulfil societal roles, such as serving as members of civil society organisations, working as deputy judges, or engaging in strategic litigation. In this way, our staff put Law in Action into practice, bringing societal perspectives and networks into their teaching.
