Designing environmental policy for a sustainable future

Environmental Economics (Spatial and Applied Economics)

Enrolling in the master's specialisation Environmental Economics opens a world of opportunities for students that want to make a difference in the world.

Scroll down to read what alumni Cathal Kelleher, Charlotte Kaijzer Franka Stöβer, and Josemaria Tito Pendola about the programme.

Upon completion of this specialisation, you will be awarded the degree of Master of Science (MSc) in Spatial and Applied Economics.

Graduates are uniquely positioned to tackle some of the most pressing global challenges, such as climate change, sustainable development, and resource management. With a strong foundation in environmental economics, students can pursue careers in diverse fields including government policymaking, international organizations, non-profits, and private sector consulting.

Most graduates find jobs within 3 months as environmental economists with (inter)national government agencies or consultancy firms and are better paid than graduates from other economic programmes. More specifically, some examples of positions where graduates of the Environmental Economics specialisation end up are:

  • Consultant Renewable Heat at Impuls Advies, Utrecht
  • EU Energy Policy Advisor at BDEW Bundesverband der Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft, Berlin
  • Environmental Analyst at Normec Verifavia, Courbevoie (France)
  • PhD researcher at TU Delft
  • Manager Sustainability at ACI World, Montreal
