At VU Amsterdam, you can study terrorism from the perspectives of different disciplines. You will learn how conflicts can arise that could potentially lead to cross-border crimes. Would you, for instance, like to know more about human rights and why child soldiers are recruited? Or do you want to analyse genocide in a country to find out what preceded this horrible phenomenon? Do you want to delve into the possible causes and reasons why people commit crimes? Would you like to know how you can prevent conflicts from getting out of hand or rule out a possible threat of terrorism? Or if it is possible to protect journalists in war zones from abuse? If you want to know more about terrorism, you can use insights from criminology, psychology, national and international criminal law, human rights and political sciences.
You will develop a clearer picture of how terrorism develops, how it is combatted and how it can possibly be prevented. You will also gain a better understanding of possible connections between different situations that are getting or have the potential to get out of hand.
