Language and Media

Communication and Information Studies

Are you interested in not only using social media but also understanding how to use language and images to design communication for these media? Do you want to study how social media influence the way companies communicate with customers? Then the Language and Media track of the Bachelor's degree in Communication and Information Studies at VU Amsterdam is perfect for you!

It’s impossible to imagine life today without social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Signal, and LinkedIn. We use them to discover the latest hotspots in town, find health information, and stay in touch with friends and family. The rise of these platforms has dramatically changed both professional and personal communication.

Five reasons to study Language and Media

  1. You learn how and why organisations use new (and old) media in business-to-business and business-to-consumer interaction.
  2. You explore the fields of Communication Studies, applied linguistics, media analysis, interaction and intercultural communication.
  3. You learn how digital media impact professional and personal interaction.
  4. The programme has a small-scale setup and offers plenty of personal contact with lecturers.
  5. You learn how to design, conduct and report scientific research, both to other academics as well as to a broader audience.

This programme is taught entirely in English.
