Maybe you came to the Bachelor’s Day and now have a shortlist. Perhaps you have been comparing programmes online. Or you might simply want a better idea of what studying a particular subject is actually like. 

A Taster Day or Student for a Day gives you the chance to go one step further. Instead of only reading about a programme, you can experience the teaching, spend time with students, and ask questions that are important to you. 

Taster Day: Try out the programme up close 

Want to know what a lecture or tutorial in the programme is really like? During a Taster Day, the Bachelor’s programme puts together an activity especially for prospective students. You might attend a lecture or tutorial, take part in a discussion, or work on an assignment yourself. 

It is a chance to experience the subjects and teachings for yourself and get a better idea of what you could expect as a first-year student. 

You will also meet students and lecturers, so bring your questions. Ask about the programme, the classes, the workload or what it is like to study at VU Amsterdam. 

Each programme organises its Taster Day differently. Some programmes also include a campus tour or offer an online activity. 

Student-for-a-Day: experience a real day of studying 

 Would you rather see what an ordinary study day looks like? During Student for a Day, you join a current VU student for one or more first-year classes. There is no programme created especially for prospective students: you join regular teaching and see what studying the programme is like on a normal day. 

You can also talk to the students you are joining. Ask what they think of the programme, what surprised them in their first year, how much they study or what student life at VU Amsterdam is like. 

Depending on the programme, you may also get a campus tour. Some programmes offer an online Student for a Day experience.

Choose a Taster Day if you want an introduction to the programme, want to experience some of the subject matter yourself and would like to meet students and lecturers. 

Choose Student for a Day if you want to join regular first-year teaching and see what an ordinary day on the programme is actually like.
