Courses and programmes

  • Master Track: International Migration and Refugee Law

Refugees from the Syrian Civil War who have escaped warfare are subsequently forced to navigate urgent and complex legal issues. A Filipino mother seeking reunification with her family in Europe faces similar obstacles. Both are confronted with the inter-relationships between humanitarian and human rights law, and the interactions between international and domestic legal systems.

International migration and refugee law must therefore be analyzed from a multitude of angles and disciplines. This specialization studies international migration from the perspective of international and European law, and focuses on how they function in domestic legal orders.

The interplay between international, European and domestic law is a specific focus of this specialization and enables you to understand and analyze the complexity of the key issues of contemporary International Migration and Refugee Law.

For detailed information on the track and application procedure, please visit the website of the Master track.

  • Minor Courses

We provide courses in two minors:

    • Law and Global Society: Internet, Migration and Climate Change Globalisation impacts the way we live. We meet different people, learn about diverse cultures, and internet facilitates world-wide communication and information exchange. Law traditionally focuses on nation states, but topics like migration, internet, climate, and terrorism do not stop at the border. Quite the contrary. The objective of this minor is to become aware of the fact that many societal issues ask for a transboundary approach to law. For further information about this minor, please visit the site of the minor Law and Global Society
    • Algemene rechtspraktijk (Dutch)
For further information, please visit the site of Algemene rechtspraktijk minor.
  • Postgraduate

We provides on a regular basis postgraduate courses via the VU Law Academy (VULA), the SSR and the OSR for a wide variety of legal practitioners.
