Studying with a disability can be challenging. The Free University wants everyone to be able to participate, have an enjoyable study time and complete their studies successfully. With the right guidance, adaptation or provision, studying can be easier for you.

What is a disability?
A disability is another word for having a condition, impairment or disability. The term is often used with students who are limited by a condition. Virtually all forms of illness, disorder, limitation or disability fall under the term disability.

Examples of functional impairment include AD(H)D, Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), dyslection, dyscalculia, anxiety disorder, depression, hearing impaired, visually impaired, chronically ill, disabled.

What do you need to study? Discuss it with your study advisor.
Because of your disability, you may find it more difficult to follow your studies and encounter problems. For example, concentration problems, difficulty communicating, problems with planning and organising, lack of energy, problems with accessibility/physical accessibility, anxiety or stress, problems with internship/work.

Whatever you are struggling with, talk to your student advisor in time. If you don't know exactly what you need, the student advisor can think along with you. More is possible than you might think right now. Do not hesitate to discuss your questions, only then will it be possible to see what is possible. Your role is important in this process.
