Training courses by theme

Last updated on 28 May 2026
VU Learning & Development offers training courses and programmes that connect with the following VU themes.
  • Social safety

VU Amsterdam is committed to fostering a study and work environment where social safety is a central priority, allowing students, staff, and PhD candidates to grow and thrive. That’s why we are collectively working towards an open and inclusive culture - one that embraces diverse perspectives. By addressing each other respectfully, listening actively, and contributing to mutual understanding, we ensure that our community leaves no room for (cyber)bullying, stalking, doxxing, discrimination, (sexual) harassment, intimidation, aggression, or violence.bullying, discrimination, racism, or (sexual) harassment.

To support employees and managers on this topic, we have the following training courses to match:

Should you ever be confronted with inappropriate behaviour, it is important to talk about it rather than keeping it to yourself. Visit the Social safety  page to learn what steps you can take and where at VU you can find help and support.

  • Leadership

Leadership in a professional organisation like VU Amsterdam deserves recognition and appreciation. After all, it is an art to manage a team of autonomous professionals each with their own specialisations and ambitions. As a leader you guard the balance between individual interests, common ambition and scarce resources. You inspire colleagues and bring cohesion and direction. In this way, you make an essential contribution to the meaningful VU Amsterdam that we aim to be for our students and society.

If you want to develop further as a manager, sign up for one of our training courses:

Do you want more information about leadership at VU? Then take a look at the page Leadership.

  • Sustainable employability

At VU Amsterdam there are various support opportunities for employees for healthy working and personal development. The Sustainable employability page contains some examples. In addition, everyone is free to use the online training courses from GoodHabitz. On this platform there are over 150 online training courses that are really practice-orientated.

  • Intercultural competencies

VU Amsterdam has a great cultural diversity among its students. We aim to be a reflection of society and diversity and equal opportunities for all students and staff.

This academic year, we are offering several courses together with KIT (Royal Tropical Institute). Registration is now possible!

For more information, see the webpage Intercultural skills training by KIT.
