In the Learning Management System (LMS) you will find the full range of training courses and programmes of VU Amsterdam. And you can register directly for the training course or programme you wish to participate in.

Therefore, VU Learning & Development offers a wide range of different training courses and programmes that support and reflect the strategic ambitions of VU Amsterdam, with a focus on 'Building towards a Lifelong Development'.

These themes form a common thread in our range of training courses and programmes. These have been especially developed for PhDs, Postdocs, supervisors and teams.

  • What is the Learning Management System (LMS)?

    The Learning Management System (LMS) contains the full range of training courses offered for VU employees. VU Learning & Development organises training courses and programmes for managers, PhDs, postdocs, academic and support staff, and for personal and team development. You can register directly for the training course or programme you wish to participate in.

  • How do I access the Learning Management System (LMS)?

    In the Service Portal, click on 'HR' top-left in the menu and then on 'Training and education'. In the square below 'Browse Training and education', click on 'Learning & Development'. Click on the ‘Take action now' button to access the Learning Management System (LMS).

    You can also access the LMS by clicking the blue 'To the LMS' button at the top right of this page.

  • How can I find courses?

    If you already know which course you wish to participate in, you can directly search the title in the search bar on the homepage in the LMS. If you would like to view the full course catalogue, click on 'Browse all courses' and you can see the course catalogue. Here you can search for courses, using filters such as source or theme. By clicking on a specific course, you will see more information about the course and an overview of all planned classes and dates (planned editions).

  • How can I add a course to my learning plan?

    You can assign a course from the course catalogue to yourself by clicking on ‘Assign to me’, making it a part of your personal learning plan.

    The learning plan is your personal overview of all courses that you have added, that you are currently doing, and the courses that you have planned.

  • How can I register for an edition?

    Having a course on your learning plan, does not mean that you have registered for a class (edition). In order to do this, click on 'Register now'. The scheduled editions will then be displayed and you can register for the preferred date. Afterwards, you will see that you are registered on your learning plan.

    If there are no available classes planned, you can choose 'Request a class’ by clicking on the ‘More’ arrow. You will then receive a notification when the new editions are planned.

  • Where can I see my finished courses?

    On the homepage in the LMS you will find an overview of your finished courses. Training courses that you have completed via LMS will end up here directly. Click 'View all' and your overview will appear.

  • What can I find under 'Recommended' and 'Personal recommendations'?

    Under 'Personal recommendations' and 'Recommended' you will find suggestions that have been made for you. For example, training courses or programmes that your colleagues found inspiring and informative and that may also be relevant for you to attend. Click on these items and you will see which suggestions have been made for you.

  • What does 'My administration' mean?

    In 'My administration' you can find the application form for an external training, an overview of the status of your approval requests, your training costs and other reports.

  • Can my manager see which training courses I am taking?

    Yes, your manager can see in the LMS which courses you are working on.
