Understanding the field of Bible translations

Bible Translation in the Digital Age

How is the most read book in the world produced? Why are there so many different Bible translations? Does translating the Bible differ from translating a modern novel or juridical or political documents? Which role do translations play for common readers but also for world leaders? What are the cultural difficulties in translating the Bible? Can the computer produce a Bible translation? How do you translate the word “snow” for people who have never seen snow? Welcome to the minor Bible Translation in the Digital Age.

In Bible translation, many disciplines are involved: biblical studies, linguistics, translation studies, but also cultural studies, contextual theology and digital humanities. This minor gives an introduction into these various disciplines in relation to the translation of the Bible in the 21st century.
