The new academic year is getting closer and closer! Soon, you’ll be starting the Political Science Pre-master’s programme.
To kickstart your studies (and stay stress-free), we’ve collated all the information you need below.
VU email
As a VU Amsterdam student, you’ll receive your own email address at the beginning of your studies. In your inbox, you’ll receive important announcements about things like cancelled classes, informational sessions and other relevant information.
Canvas
In the Canvas online learning management system, you’ll find more information about the educational programme, your courses, literature and assessments. Assignments are also created, submitted and checked here, and provisional grades are kept track of. In addition, lecturers post announcements on Canvas. By activating Canvas notifications, you’ll automatically receive an email whenever something is posted.
Schedule
Your personal schedule is available on rooster.vu.nl. The schedule is frequently updated, so it’s important to check it regularly. You can synchronise your schedule with calendar apps like Microsoft Outlook, Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or another calendar app on your smartphone.
Study guide
In the study guide, you’ll find more information about the Pre-Master’s programme, curriculum and courses.
Career
VU Amsterdam regularly organises alumni days, during which graduates share their work experiences. At VU Career Services, you can seek guidance and ask questions about your future career.
Support and wellbeing
Your wellbeing is our top priority. It’s possible that during your studies, you may encounter obstacles or face illness or other personal circumstances. If you need some extra support, on an academic or personal level, you can seek help from an academic advisor, dean or student psychologist, for example. All conversations are strictly confidential.
Academic advisors
Do you have specific questions or need advice about the programme, study planning, personal circumstances or studying with a disability? You can seek help from our academic advisors for this. All conversations are strictly confidential.
Programme committee
Every programme at VU Amsterdam has a programme committee. This committee helps decide on the education students receive and advises the programme director. Do you want to have a say in your own education? Then become a member of the committee for your programme and help ensure high-quality education and build your CV!
Facilities
As a student at VU Amsterdam, you have access to various facilities to make your study experience even more enjoyable and accessible, such as study and collaboration spaces, IT facilities and more.
Association EOS
EOS is the association of the school under which your Pre-Master’s programme falls: the School of Social Sciences. EOS organises various activities for all programmes within the school.
Extra activities
In addition to the core components, you can engage in extra activities such as studying abroad, an honours programme, extra online courses or a double degree. These opportunities enrich your studies and sometimes provide international experience, which is a valuable addition to your CV.
Outside your studies
Student life is about more than just burying yourself in (digital) books. There’s a good chance that during your Pre-Master’s, you'll meet new friends and perhaps even study in a new city full of exciting student hangouts! You can join a student association, student council, representative body, sports club or even take a creative course at VU Grifioen.
Route and accessibility
The VU Campus is easily accessible by car, bike and public transport. Several trams and buses stop right outside the campus. If you’re taking the train to Amsterdam Zuid station, it’s just a short walk to the university. By bike, you’re right in the centre of Amsterdam in no time.
VU Campus
In contrast with other universities, at the VU Campus you’ll find all different programmes and buildings on one site. The VU Campus is a place where people meet, and new forms of collaboration arise. Don’t worry about getting lost: our cheerful VU host Hans, along with other hosts, is available in the main building every day to help you. Want to know what the campus looks like already? Check out the VU Campus tour.
Social media
Would you like to spar with fellow students from your Pre-Master’s programme? A group chat is often created at the start of the academic year, where students share experiences, summaries and more.
