Check whether you meet the admission requirements and apply

• Admission requirements

  You will be admitted to this bachelor's if you possess a Dutch VWO-diploma. You do not need a specific profile.
  Do note that mathematics plays a big part in this programme; if you haven't finished mathematics (Dutch 'wiskunde B/ A) in high school, we'll catch up with you in person to make sure this won't be a problem for you.

  International diploma

  Students from outside the Netherlands should have a pre-university secondary education comparable to the Dutch vwo-diploma: good A-level results or International Baccalaureate. All applications are reviewed individually due to their distinctive nature. Therefore, the only way to determine admissibility is by submitting an official application for enrolment via Studielink and providing all required documentation in OSIRIS. After you have done so, you will be informed about your admissibility as soon as possible via email. These admission requirements are valid for the September 2023 intake.

  European Baccalaureate

  With a European Baccalaureate diploma, you will probably be admissible to the bachelor's in Creative Technology. This depends on the subjects and levels you have achieved. A successfully completed European Baccalaureate diploma is required before the start of the academic year. Your curriculum has to contain: mathematics for 3 hours & English.

  International Baccalaureate

  With the International Baccalaureate diploma, you will probably be admissible to the bachelor's in Creative Technology. This depends on the subjects and levels you have achieved. A successfully completed International Baccalaureate diploma is required before the start of the academic year. Your curriculum has to contain at least: Mathematical Studies SL / Applications & Interpretations SL and English.

  GCSE & GCE A2-levels

  With the General Certificate of Education, you will probably be admissible to the bachelor's in Creative Technology. This depends on the subjects and levels you have achieved. Successfully completed GCE A2-level is required before the start of the academic year. For possible admission, we require at least:

  3 (I)GCSE / GCE O-Level with an A, B or C grade or 4 – 9 score.

  3 full GCE A2-Level with an A, B or C grade.

  Students need to have six different subjects in (I)GCSE / GCE O-Level and A2-Level. For Creative Technology you should have at least followed GCE A2-Level Mathematics and English.

  Advanced placement exams

  The USA High School Diploma is equivalent to the Dutch vwo-diploma only in combination with at least 4 CollegeBoard Advanced Placement (AP) exams with a 3, 4 or 5 grade. The High School should be accredited and recognised by one of the commissions or by the state. Your curriculum has to contain at least: Mathematics AP Calculus AB or AP Calculus BC and English.

  Entry level English

  As the programme is taught entirely in English, a high level of English proficiency is required as well:

  • IELTS (academic, not older than 2 years): minimum overall score of 6.0, a minimum score on each section of 5.5
  • TOEFL iBT (not older than 2 years): minimum overall score of 80, a minimum score on each section of 18
  • Cambridge (CAE/CPE): minimum overall score of 169, a minimum score on each section of 162

  Make sure you have obtained a valid English test result before the application deadline. For EU students the application deadline for a completed application with all the required uploads submitted via OSIRIS is 1 July. For non-EU students, this deadline is 1 May. You can even apply even though you have not completed your degree yet.

• Orientation

  The Bachelor’s programme in Creative Technology (CreaTe) is offered in collaboration between the University of Twente (UT) and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam). The curriculum and content are largely the same, whether you choose the Enschede (UT) or Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) location. Your degree will be awarded by the University of Twente.

  Open days

  Would you like to find out if CreaTe is right for you? Then visit an open day at VU Amsterdam or the UT. During an open day, you will get a good impression of the programme, the atmosphere and the campus. You can attend information sessions, ask questions to students and lecturers, and experience where you feel most at home.

  Taster days and trial studying

  Would you like to experience what it is like to study CreaTe? You can register for a taster day or student-for-a-day experience at VU Amsterdam. You will attend lectures, meet students and gain a realistic impression of the programme. You can also attend a student-for-a-day experience or taster day at the UT. 

  Study advice

  Do you still have doubts or specific questions? You can schedule a study advice consultation with a study adviser. Together, you will discuss your interests, expectations and options, helping you make a well-informed decision.

• Application

  You apply via Studielink to the University of Twente. This is because your degree is awarded by the UT, even if you study in Amsterdam at VU Amsterdam.

  How it works

  • Search for the programme “Creative Technology” at the University of Twente in Studielink.
  • Select “Bachelor Amsterdam (VU-UT)” if you want to study CreaTe at VU Amsterdam.
  • Complete your application by uploading all required documents in Osiris (UT’s system).

  If you apply for the VU-UT track, you will follow most of your programme at VU Amsterdam. You will be officially enrolled at the UT and automatically registered as a minor student at VU Amsterdam:

  • UT enrolment: B Creative Technology

  After applying, you will receive emails from both the UT and VU Amsterdam about completing your enrolment, payment and the introduction days. Please note that you will receive multiple messages in the run-up to the start of your studies in September.

  Application deadline

  The application deadline is 1 May 2026. Make sure you submit your complete application, including all required documents in Osiris, before this date.

  You can apply from October for a programme starting in September of the following academic year. For the most up-to-date information and any exceptions, please consult the UT website.

  Different deadlines and additional admission requirements may apply to international students. In that case, you will receive further information from the UT Admissions Office and International Office.

• Matching and admission

  We believe it is important that you choose a programme that matches your interests, talents and expectations. That is why you will take part in a compulsory matching procedure after applying.

  How it works

  • Complete an online questionnaire about your interests, expectations and skills in relation to CreaTe.
  • Once you’ve completed the questionnaire, you’ll have fulfilled the matching process. We strongly recommend that you attend an open day, taster day or student-for-a-day experience.

  Admission

  After completing the matching procedure, you will be informed about your admission to the programme. Official enrolment is only possible once you have met all admission requirements, such as submitting the required documents and fulfilling any financial obligations.

• What does this collaboration between VU Amsterdam and UT mean for me? 

  As a CreaTe-VU student you will have the best of both worlds. Studying most of your time at VU Amsterdam, you will experience the student life, the mix of cultures, and everything else that Amsterdam and VU Amsterdam have to offer. As almost all engineering related programmes in the Netherlands are located far away from Amsterdam, this is a unique opportunity. At the same time you will also spend some time at the University of Twente. Where you will have access to all their facilities, their beautiful campus, and where you will experience the hospitality of Twente.

  How much time do I spend at the University of Twente

  Anually the average is between 15% and 20%. This comes down to roughly 20 - 25 nights a year. Please note that this is an annual average, the amount you need to attend the University of Twente per month may vary. Some periods you will be there more often than other periods. We always strive to plan multiple consecutive lecturing days in Enschede, so you can stay the night and profit optimally from your stay and the facilities in Enschede.

  In the first module of the second year, you will deepen your knowledge and skills by choosing one of three specialization modules. Two of these modules are offered only at the UT, one is offered only at VU Amsterdam. Accommodation for these modules is not arranged. You can find more information in the 'curriculum' tab. 

  Travelling to the University of Twente

  In addition to the on-campus education at VU Amsterdam, you travel to the University of Twente a few times a month, mainly to follow practicals. From the train station next to VU Amsterdam, you only have to switch trains once before arriving in Hengelo. From Hengelo it is a 10-minute bus ride to the University of Twente campus. 

  Accommodation

  Because you will stay consecutive days at the UT, we advise you to stay there overnight. At the UT campus there are cabins available at cost price, specifically allocated to the Creative Technology students. These cabins are group accommodation on the UT campus. You can expect to spend about 350 - 450 euro for the overnight stays in the cabins per academic year. More information can be found at vu-ut.nl.

  Diploma

  At graduation, you will receive a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree from the University of Twente.
