Edu4U
Hussein – Medicine Student
He came to the Netherlands as a refugee from Syria, and now Hussein is a fourth-year medical student. It’s quite an achievement, but the road to getting there wasn't easy. During his studies, he met Mohamed and Anas, who encountered the same obstacles along the way. Based on their own experiences, they set up Edu4U. The project helps fellow refugees navigate the Dutch education system and creates equal opportunities in higher education.
Edu4U guides refugees towards higher education
Imagine you come to the Netherlands as a refugee and have to rebuild your entire life. Where do you start? Edu4U helps newcomers navigate the Dutch education system. And it ensures that they can follow an education programme at their own level. With weekend courses and exam training, Edu4U prepares refugees for higher professional or university education. The individualised approach of the organisation has proven to be successful. Edu4U started in 2017 with 12 students. This year, they’re teaching more than 450 students. Because most of the teachers have been a refugee themselves, they also know what the newcomers are going through. By refugees, for refugees.
