While there already was an ongoing trend of ageing that increases health care spending, policymakers and health care providers have been confronted with new challenges in recent years. The start of COVID has raised important questions on how pandemic preparedness should be organized and coordinated across institutions and countries. More generally, such coordination is relevant when it comes to the broader public health policies and interventions from which costs and benefits extend to multiple organizations – and possibly also at an international level. With HERA, we want to encourage research that provides guidance when coping the dilemmas that come with these new challenges.
Researchers affiliated with HERA have expertise in global and public health economics, health economics of the Dutch care system and health management of hospitals and other care organizations. A common aspect of these different disciplines is that they all have a strong focus on the design and implementation of health policies. HERA aims to generate spillover between these disciplines, both by encouraging research and teaching in this field. At the same time, researchers in HERA already collaborate with other organizations that focus in health sciences and (global) public health, such as the Talma institute for Work, Care and Welfare, the Amsterdam Public Health institute and the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD).
HERA organizes health economics seminars where affiliates present their research. To be updated on the dates and contents of these seminars, contact Fatima Amankour.
