Sportcentrum VU

Sportcentrum VU has ample fitness facilities and offers 35 different sports.

Quality and guidance at Sportcentrum VU

At Sportcentrum VU the following values are central: sporty, customer-oriented, accessible and connecting. We want to offer the best quality and guidance, at every level. The close connection with science and especially Human Movement Sciences enables us to do so. We coach an individual athlete who works out twice a week with just as much attention and pleasure as rowers and skaters aiming for Olympic gold.

Sportcentrum VU is a department of Student & Educational Affairs (SOZ)

Sports and facilities

The sports centre has spacious fitness facilities and offers 35 different sports, from fitness to yoga and from indoor football to boxing. During the day, the facilities are also regularly used for research and education, supplemented by a sports function aimed at specific target groups: top athletes, athletes with a disability, overweight people or patients who need or have undergone surgery. Employees of VU Amsterdam can exercise cheaply at Sportcentrum VU through the VU in Motion programme.

Sports café

Sportcentrum VU is a modern and multifunctional sports centre, but at the same time social and convivial. Our Sports Café offers space to study, socialise and is the place to enjoy a drink and sports images on various screens after sports. Sportcentrum VU brings people together. Many VU Amsterdam students and staff play sports there, but local residents and companies from the area are also welcome. In the evenings and weekends, it is a bustling student hotspot.

Two locations

Sportcentrum VU has two locations where you can play sports: on Uilenstede and on VU Campus, on the ground floor of the OZW Building. They also use the beach volleyball courts on the VU Campus and the facilities of tennis park Buitenveldert, skating rink the Jaap Edenbaan and the Science Park.

Future plans

Besides offering its own sports and health facilities, the sports centre also wants to fulfil an important facilitating function. With the expansion of Uilenstede, and a possible move to the VU Campus in the future, there are good facilities for this. The primary aim here is to find activities that fit within the central idea and objectives of VU Amsterdam. Starting points here are:

- The operation of sports is part of the Student and Educational Affairs Department (SOZ)

- The sports centre will need a structural subsidy

- The aim is for sports to eventually move to the campus
