Faculty Office Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities

The Faculty Office supports the director of operations and the Faculty Board.

In addition, the Faculty Office supports the academic departments, programmes and various committees.

The Faculty Office comprises the following departments:

  • Education Office

    The Education Office provides support to the school’s teaching programmes. This support concerns teaching and examination administration, student services, study advice, teaching logistics, official secretariat Examination Board, Admission Boards and Binding Study Advice Board, teaching quality assurance and ICT & teaching development and support.

  • Research Office

    The Research Office is the primary point of contact for support on research related issues for its academic staff. The ambition of the research support office is to help its researchers effectively realize their research goals by creating a research environment in which high-quality research can thrive and its societal impact is maximized. Scientific integrity and the education of PhD candidates are an integral part of this environment.

  • Communication

    The Communication & Marketing (C&M) department consists of a team of communications professionals who can be deployed broadly.

  • Finance & Control

    The Finance & Control Department is responsible for managing the financial resources of the Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities.

    The Financial Service Center takes care of the financial administration (including creditors and the debtors).

  • HRM

    The HR team advises and supports the administration and faculty managers on HR policies.

  • Education Quality Assurance and Development

    The Education Quality Assurance and Development team ensures the quality of education. The team supports the school in improving the quality of education. It advises program directors on policy and coordinates evaluations. Additionally, the team oversees the management of systems and documentation to ensure streamlined educational processes, promotes educational innovations, and supports the implementation of ICT developments in education.

  • Career services & Alumnirelations

    VU Career Services

    Career Services helps students with all questions related to their future career.

    Alumni relations

    The Department of University Relations & Fundraising expands the VU community by establishing meaningful relationships with alumni, donors, corporate partners and other relevant stakeholders. For all VU relations, DURF is the central point of contact.

  • HOVO

    HOVO offers academic courses in six areas of knowledge, ranging from history to physics. HOVO Amsterdam is the place to pursue higher education for further development. HOVO is for everyone with an appetite for knowledge: in unique courses, you will learn about the latest scientific insights in numerous subjects. 


  • VU-NT2

    VU-NT2 (Dutch as a second language) wants to offer good language education to non-native speakers in the Netherlands. NT2 provides language courses for expats and people in their civic integration process, trains teachers, develops teaching and testing materials, provides advice and conducts research.
