Would you like to use the Special Collections in your teaching?

A core task of the Special Collections team is to support and provide education. We do this by, among other things, contributing to lectures with the collections, giving guided tours and involving teachers as guest curators.

Lectures with heritage on the table
Want to use the Special Collections in a targeted way in your lecture? You can! The curators will be happy to advise you on which material is suitable for the specific subject you teach. The curators can also act as guest speakers. In addition, we are happy to help with the practical organisation of the course. The Special Collections instruction room can accommodate groups of 15 students.

Guided tours
Is your lecture related to VU history, working with historical sources or contemporary art? Or do you have another reason why you think it is important for your students to come into contact with Special Collections? During a guided tour (an hour and a half), we will tell you about our field and aspects of collection development and management. Above all, we lead the group past the masterpieces from VU's Special Collections.

Guest curator
Are you captivated by the Special Collections? We cordially invite lecturers to act as guest curators. As a guest curator, you will work closely with a group of students on a collection for a period of time. Often, the work results in an exhibition. An exhibition - physical and/or digital - offers students the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the material and present it (digitally) in an original and active way. We gladly make our heritage showcase and expertise available.

The curators of the University Library (UB) work with the collection on a daily basis and are therefore the connoisseurs of the collection par excellence. We are happy to point out potentially relevant manuscripts, art and heritage objects, archives or maps. We also advise on the use of the collections and the application of digital solutions in teaching, research and study.
