Grades and results

Go to Results overview
Last updated on 29 April 2025
All information about your grades can be found here, such as requesting your results overview with VU stamp, validity of your results, filing an objection and uploading externally obtained results.

The study guide for each course tells you which components make up the final grade. The rounding rules for this can be found in the Education and Examination Regulations (TER), which can be consulted via the Study Guide.

As soon as a teacher has registered a (final) grade, this appears in your results overview. Here you can see your marks, including any partial marks, depending on the course or programme. You can also export your grade list.

Check your grades regularly to keep track of your study progress towards your degree.

All information on your results and grades

  • Validity of results

Obtained results and exemptions remain valid indefinitely, unless knowledge or skills become obsolete. The Teaching and Examination Regulations (TER) show the term for each course. Do you study longer than nominal + 1 year? Then the validity may also expire on substantive grounds.

In case of delay due to personal circumstances, you can apply to the Examination Board for extension of validity (GNK students: see this form). Also discuss this with a student advisor for advice and possible support, such as the Student Support Fund.

  • Export and request results overview

    Export result overview by yourself

Go to your results overview and click 'Export results overview'*. If you follow several study programmes, you can also indicate here whether you want an overview of all results or only of a specific programme. Then indicate in which format you want to receive the overview: as a PDF or Excel file. You can also choose to have partial grades and fail grades displayed.

You will be shown an example of the choice you have made. Check carefully that the results are complete and correct. You get a Dutch- or English-language overview of your results, which you can print yourself.

*No rights can be derived from the export.

    Request result overview

A result overview provided with a VU stamp (and signature) is an official document. It only shows the final results of courses that were successfully completed, without the courses you have not (yet) completed (e.g. because of a fail, NVD or NS). You may need it for a job application or application for a (new) course, for example. Go to your results overview and click on 'Results overview with VU stamp'. You then have two options:

    1. A result overview with VU stamp
Select the programme and in which language you would like to receive the overview and click'Request'. The overview will be sent directly to your VU-mail address. There is no signature but a VU stamp on this document.

    2. Result overview with VU stamp and signature
You can only request this overview if the overview of option 1 is not sufficient.

You can request a result overview with VU stamp and signature using the form Official certified grade transcript. Complete the form in full and state the reason for your request. The transcript will then be sent by e-mail. If you prefer, you can also request the overview directly at the Student Desk and receive a physical copy on the spot.

Please check that your grades are correct before requesting an overview.

  • Disagree with results and objection

If you disagree with the grade you have been given, you can follow the steps below to object.

    1. Inspection

The teacher/subject coordinator will inform you when the inspection time is. Go to the inspection time and check your grade and assessment. If you do not agree, discuss it immediately with the teacher/subject coordinator present. If you do not agree, proceed to step 2.

    2. Course coordinator

Have you been to the inspection meeting but still do not agree with your assessment? Contact the course coordinator. Was the course coordinator present at the inspection meeting or are you unable to reach a solution? Then proceed to step 3.

    3. Appeal to the Examination Appeals Board (COBEX)

You can lodge an appeal with the Examination Appeals Board (COBEX) at cobex.bz@vu.nl only against the way in which the assessment was made. The appeal must include a name, student number, postal address and VU e-mail address as well as the grounds for the appeal. Go to the Dispute Desk for more information on lodging an appeal.

  • External results achieved

External results are results you have obtained for courses you have taken outside your regular study programme. You can submit the results of these courses and have them count towards your own programme.

Courses taken at VU outside your study programme?

You can only have these courses count within your programme if you have received permission from the Examination Board in advance to have the course counted within your main programme. The result is then passed on internally, you do not have to do anything yourself.

Course taken at an educational institution other than the VU outside the collaboration with the UvA?

Use the form to upload the official result overview showing the result obtained externally. The VU reserves the right to request the original result overview at any time up to the moment of graduation, so keep this document safe. So keep this document well. Check that your result has been processed in your result overview within two weeks.

  • Checking your results summary

Check that your results summary is correct and complete. Is this not the case? If so, contact the Educational Office. GNK students can email to toetsbeheer.vu@amsterdamumc.nl. For Secondary Subject students, please fill in this form.
