Electives Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences

Last updated on 28 November 2022
Behavioural and Movement Sciences students can choose electives within their own degree programme/faculty, another faculty, or another university.

The first semester of year three of Bachelor’s programme is the elective space. You get to plan your study for half a year (in other words thirty credits) at your own discretion. You can study in Barcelona , do an internship at a multinational or delve into, for example, psychology, history or economics. On this page you will be instructed on how to fill your elective space with electives. These are the options:

  • Put together a package of electives yourself
  • Electives within the study programme
  • Elective courses within the faculty
  • Electives at another VU Amsterdam faculty
  • Electives at another university

Always check the requirements for the elective space, and check whether you need permission from the Examination Board in advance.

Overview

  • Put together a package of electives yourself

You can put together a package of electives within your own field of study, another field within VU Amsterdam, or at a different university at home or abroad (exchange). Take into account the levels of the courses you select and make sure that there is no overlap between the courses you have already taken or are yet to take. If you put together a package yourself, you must always request approval from the Examination Board in advance. Always add a completed copy of this form to the registration form for approval of the courses.

  • Electives within Behavioural and Movement Sciences

You can choose courses from other Bachelor’s degree programmes of Behavioural and Movement Sciences or extra electives within your own degree programme. If you put together a package yourself, you must take into account the level of the subjects: there must be at least two courses of level 300, and only one is permitted of level 100. The package of courses must also be cohesive. The electives cannot overlap content wise with other courses from the curriculum. Approval of the Examination Board is always required.

  • Electives at another VU Amsterdam faculty

If you want to follow courses at another faculty within VU Amsterdam, check the study guide for an overview of possible subjects and descriptions.

  • Electives at another VU Amsterdam faculty

If you should want to follow courses at another faculty within VU Amsterdam, check the study guide for an overview of possible subjects and descriptions.

  • Electives at another university

Check with the relevant university whether you can participate in the desired elective course and ask that university how to register.  Request prior approval from the Examination Board of the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences to be allowed to use the course in your elective space and check the requirements with regards to the elective space.

Register at the other university as a guest student (via Studielink). For this you need a Proof of Payment of Tuition Fee from VU Amsterdam.

    • When you have passed the course, submit your certified list of grades via Submit externally obtained result. This assessment contains your name, the course code of the component, the assessment and the number of credits.
    • Also provide an English translation of the name of the course for the English diploma supplement.

Ask the Examination Board of the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences in advance to be allowed to use the courses in your elective space and check the requirements. Always add a completed copy of the FGB Course Approval Form to the registration form.
