Sustainable entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurs increasingly need to make balanced choices between people, planet and profit. VU Center for Entrepreneurship is leading in the field of sustainable entrepreneurship.

We continuously develop our knowledge by taking part in Erasmus+ projects, giving and organising (guest) lectures and by capacity building projects with colleagues from other faculties.

Erasmus+ project Entrepreneurship in Renewable Energy (EntRENEW)

The EntRENEW project fosters a dynamic approach that combines corporate, scientific, and pedagogical expertise in the fields of renewable energy and entrepreneurship. The project's main outcome is the creation of a blended-learning course that integrates the realms of entrepreneurship and technology, specifically focusing on smart, sustainable, and renewable energy studies. The project, funded by the European Commission through Erasmus+, involves several esteemed organizations, including Association Leonard De Vinci (France), Vaasan Yliopisto (Finland), Universitat Politecnia de Valencia (Spain), Hogskolan I Halmstad (Sweden), Europroject (Bulgaria), and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (Netherlands). The aim is for the course to be replicated in various educational contexts, promoting knowledge exchange and collaboration across Europe. The course is designed for master's students in business schools, engineering and design schools, and joint study programs.

Guest lecture at the University of the Aegean: empowering sustainable entrepreneurship on Lesbos

The University of the Aegean, located across six Greek islands, has teamed up with the VU Center for Entrepreneurship to enhance its education in sustainable entrepreneurship. The university's Department of Environment, situated on the captivating island of Lesbos, aims to strengthen its collaboration with local small businesses for the promotion of circular and sustainable entrepreneurship. In a guest lecture, VU Center for Entrepreneurship emphasised the importance of engaging students in real-world projects on the island, such as tackling food waste in restaurants or spearheading the development of eco-friendly transportation infrastructure like bicycles and electric scooters.

The guest lecture marks the third milestone in the ongoing partnership with the University of the Aegean on sustainable entrepreneurship education. Get in touch if you would like support with your sustainable entrepreneurship education.

We try to uncover why entrepreneurs choose to embrace sustainable practices in their work. Are these motivations intrinsic or are they rooted in external influences? What other catalysts contribute to their decision-making?
