Concerning Situation Israel and Palestinian regions

Share
10 October 2023
We feel involved with all students and academics worldwide who are victims of political unrest, humanitarian disasters, conflicts, or human rights violations. The ongoing violence in Israel and the Palestinian regions and the heartbreaking images deeply affect us. Our thoughts are with all innocent civilians suffering from these tragic situations, and with everyone concerned about family or friends who are directly or indirectly affected.

We understand that these events can evoke strong emotions and significant concerns, even within our own VU community. We consider it of utmost importance to provide a safe and supportive environment for all our students and staff who are affected by recent developments.

Help and Support

Please consult this page for more information for employees or for students on the support offered by VU Amsterdam, or refer to the information below:

  • Students can contact the academic advisor of their specific faculty if the situation may impact their academic performance. All conversations are confidential. If the academic advisor cannot assist you directly, they can often refer you to another person or organization within or outside VU Amsterdam for further guidance or support.
  • Students can also visit the student psychological counsellor during their office hours. The online office hours are on Mondays and Thursdays (excluding holidays) between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM via Zoom. All staff members adhere to a strict code of confidentiality.
  • Students can visit our physical Student Wellbeing Point (located in the main VU building, next to the Student Desk) for a listening ear or assistance with referrals.
  • Staff members can seek support from their supervisors or from Occupational social work.
  • PhD candidates can contact their supervisor or the PhD psychologist.
  • If you wish to speak with someone anonymously, please contact the 'Luisterlijn' (Listening Line). It is available 24/7 at deluisterlijn.nl or by calling 088 0767 000 (also available in English).

3D
3D serves as both the social clubhouse for VU students and a space for dialogue and deep conversations. It is a place where the VU community can come together when needed. Students and staff who feel the need can get in touch. You can find 3D on campus at the campus square.

As a university, we are committed to dedicating ourselves to education and research, working towards a world where knowledge, understanding, and cooperation contribute to a more peaceful and just future for everyone.
