Reporting misconduct

Last updated on 11 March 2025
It is important that you can report any misconduct or wrongdoings within the organization safely. The Whistleblowers’ Regulations have been drawn up for that purpose. Whistleblowing can be described as an employee of or student at VU Amsterdam reporting suspicions of serious illegal or immoral practices that are taking place under the responsibility of VU Amsterdam and in the context of which a significant general social interest or an interest of the institution itself is at stake.

Confidential Counsellor under the Whistleblower Regulations

For information and support you can contact the Confidential Counsellors. They can advise you about using the Whistleblower Regulations to safely report misconduct. The Confidential Counsellor can also submit a report on your behalf so you remain anonymous. However, the personal details of the reporter must be known to the Confidential Counsellor.

Ombudsman or Staff Welfare Office

Are you personally affected by the situation? Are you not sure whether the situation involves misconduct that would justify a formal complaint? Or are you concerned about the potential consequences of making a report? If so, you can discuss the situation – in confidence – with the ombudsman or the Staff Welfare Office.
