Panopto is the video application used bij Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Panopto allows you to record, edit and share videos with lecturers and students.

Panopto is a video platform designed primarily for educational and corporate environments, enabling users to record, live stream, manage, and share video content easily. It is widely used by universities and businesses to capture lectures, presentations, and training sessions. Panopto integrates with learning management systems (LMS) and offers features like automatic captioning, video search, analytics, and secure access controls, making it a powerful tool for enhancing learning and communication through video.

Documents

Panopto Instructions.
Instructions can be found in several places:
- In Pantopto In the Get Started with Panopto folder.
- In Canvas on the pages VU Tools for Education in Canvas or Getting To Know Canvas for Teachers. The information is the same.
- There is also a website where all manuals and video tutorials about Panopto are available. To do this, go to the support page.
Lost videos of colleagues who no longer work at the VU?
If you used a video of a colleague who no longer works at the VU and you had permission to use this video, the ownership of the video can be changed. For privacy reasons, permission from your manager is required.
You can request this via your faculty contact person at Canvas.
You must provide the following information for this:
- the titles of the videos in question
- the owner of the videos in question
- the new owner of the video's
- link to the desired map in Panopto.
- written permission from your manager.
What happens to links of Kaltura and Mediasite videos in documents, such as PowerPoints or PDF-files?

Links to Kaltura and Mediasite videos in documents will continue to work until the video applications go offline.
For Mediasite videos, this is until 1 July. For Kaltura videos until the end of 2024. If you want to continue using relevant document, you can place the new Panopto links in the documents yourself.
What happens to embedded videos from Kaltura and Mediasite on websites?

When embedded videos from Kaltura or Mediasite are used on websites other than Canvas, these videos will no longer work after Kaltura or Mediasite are offline. You can replace the Kaltura or Mediasite link with Panopto's new link.
Videos embedded in Canvas are converted to the new Panopto link.
Mediasite videos will remain visible until 1 July. Kaltura videos will remain visible until the end of the academic year.
Information for students

Students can not use Panopto to create and save videos. Are you a student and do you currently have a student folder on Kaltura that contains videos? These videos will not be migrated to Panopto. Go directly to Panopto for students.
