Principles
At VU, we develop new, bold and imaginative interdisciplinary forms of education: VIE projects. But what are conditions for optimal experiences?
- Interdisciplinary education should preferably take place in the context of the real (work/professional) setting, or at least approach it as closely as possible.
- VIE projects contribute to concrete real solutions for small/manageable parts of one or more wicked problems at play in our society.
VIE learning outcomes
Every course incorporates VIE learning outcomes. They can be used in the way each course deems appropriate. They are not made into a measuring or monitoring tool but serve as an inspirational reference.
The student:
- is aware of the relationship of one's own science/discipline to other sciences in society;
- has the ability to reflect on the implications of interdisciplinary approaches to so-called wicked problems (complex, difficult-to-solve issues within today's society and living environment);
- has the ability to convey his or her own understanding of the field to specialists and to a non-specialist audience.
