The function of a room (teaching, research and so on) determines the cleaning approach. The 'element' in a room determines the action(s) and frequency. For example, a table is cleaned more often than an outlet.
Cleaning programmes
Cleaning on the VU Campus takes place according to established programmes. In total, there are 47 different programmes. Here is an overview (in Dutch) of the most prominent programmes, with the basic frequencies per week. At room level, frequencies and programmes may vary, depending on use and degree of soiling. For many sanitary areas, for example, extra follow-up rounds are carried out.
Cleaning activities take place, mostly during office hours. Cleaning does not take place at fixed times; this cannot be planned. For most types of rooms (exceptions are sanitary and treatment rooms) there is an obligation to clean for result not as an act on itself. We ask for your cooperation by leaving the rooms tidy (clean desk) and make room during the cleaning.
Austerity of services
Since 1 January 2025, we have implemented austerity measures in services to stay within the VU's financial frameworks. For cleaning, this has led to a number of changes in frequencies (already incorporated in this overview.
- Stairwells: from 3x to 2x per week
- Laboratories: from 5x to 3x per week (shared responsibility)
- Seating area (flex): from 2.5x to 2x per week
- Seating workspace (fixed): from 2x to 1x per week (shared responsibility)
