Clean public spaces, teaching and learning spaces, workplaces and hygienic bathroom facilities are all key to a pleasant working environment. That is why VU Amsterdam contracts out its cleaning and window cleaning services to various specialized external companies, which comply with prescribed criteria and procedures.
The cleaning approach used is determined by the function of the room in question (teaching, research, and the like). It is the individual ‘elements’ of a room that determine the frequency of cleaning and the procedure (or procedures) used. For example, tables are wiped down more often than power sockets.

Do you need extra cleaning services?
What if the particular type of cleaning that you need is not listed in the catalogue? That means it is not covered by the standard cleaning service. Nevertheless, you can request it.
You can either request a one-off cleaning activity or a routine cleaning service. This could include:
- arranging for cleaning to take place more often,
- having the computer equipment in your workplace cleaned,
- having the upholstery of seats cleaned.
How long will you have to wait?
Depending on the scope of the cleaning activity involved, this could be from 2 to 10 working days. If you have asked for your computer equipment to be cleaned, you should allow for an interval of at least 10 working days.

Your request will then be handled by the relevant cleaning company.
