Mixed Classroom in Practice workshops
In this workshop you will learn to work with the VU MIXED model.

The VU MIXED model is an educational approach that builds upon differences to enrich the learning experience for all students present. Capitalizing on differences does not mean compromising between different perspectives or merging them into one uniform perspective. Instead, the approach uses the differences and possible tension between views to stimulate critical thinking, develop analytical skills, and generate creative solutions. The VU MIXED model is built on a three-phase process through which students learn how to capitalize on different perspectives within the classroom. In this workshop you will learn to work with the model.

Tailor-made offer

We offer various tailor-made programmes based on the VU MIXED model. Please contact Amrita Das (a.das@vu.nl) if you are interested in any of the programmes.

  • Hot Moments in the Classroom
When diverse perspectives interact, hot moments are inevitable. These moments of tension have potential to advance deep learning, if managed well. Based on interviews and observations during Mixed Classroom workshops, we disentangled hot moments and put together a framework. This document offers insights, tools and tips for teachers in higher education. Based on these insights, we have developed workshops and teacher feedback sessions. Read more.
  • MIXED model Approach Workshops & Consultation and Intervisions Services
To support teachers and students in acquiring and developing competencies to capitalize on differences in their classrooms, we offer bespoke workshops designed for personalized needs according to the MIXED model. Our consultation and intervision services include the designing and facilitation of conferences and meetings using the Mixed Classroom approach. The workshops and consultations are available for all faculties, departments, teacher groups, teachers specializing in UTQ, STQ, and MIXED model specializations. We also provide workshops for students.
  • Curriculum Advisory Services
MIXED model specialists facilitate, moderate, and help develop and revise content and curricula keeping a keen eye on diversity, equity, and inclusion. We use the MIXED model as a starting point to critically look at your program’s alignment regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our approach in doing this will be tailored to the needs of your department and can consist of, for example:
    - Collaboration workshops with teaching teams
    - Analysis of course documents
    - Coaching sessions
    - Collation of vision
