Business and innovation of Natural Sciences

Science, Business and Innovation (SBI) for Science Students

The minor Science, Business and Innovation (SBI) for Science Students provides science students with a multidisciplinary theoretical basis in business and innovation studies necessary to valorise and commercialise science.

Society looks at natural sciences to solve many of the grand challenges we face today, however commercializing scientific discoveries is a challenge in itself. Being able to converse with scientists on advanced natural scientific subjects while also being able to develop business through innovation is highly valued in today’s labor markets. And in a nutshell that is what SBI is about.

This minor is designed by the department of Science, Business and Innovation. Students who follow this minor have a diverse background but all are (natural) science students who want to broaden their perspective. If you doubt about being in the lab as your future career this minor introduces you to an alternative career path. SBI is part of the science faculty and you can follow this minor to explore if the SBI master is something for you.

“I chose the minor in Entrepreneurship to gain additional knowledge and to develop skills in innovation and entrepreneurship. My background in Business Analytics meant that I had worked with data of companies, but I didn’t have a grasp on how things work within the companies themselves. This minor changed that drastically. During the Enterprising Behaviour course, we learned how to create and take advantage of valuable new opportunities."
